Annabel L. Filer
Annabel L. Filer, 89, of Grove City passed away at 3:22 p.m. Wednesday at the Grove Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
Annabel was born Aug. 27, 1926, in Grove City to John L. and Laurene McFarland Brennaman. She was a graduate of Grove City High School in the Class of 1944.
Following high school, she worked in Washington, D.C., for the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover, where she was a fingerprint analyst.
She returned home after a few years and married Clifford L. Filer on June 15, 1946. He preceded her in death Aug. 16, 2013.
Annabel was a homemaker and along with her husband raised their four children. She formerly worked at the Bell Telephone office of Grove City, and for many years she was a clerk in the shoe department of the former Jamesway retail store in Grove City.
She was an avid golfer and was a member of the ladies league at the Shamrock Golf Course in Slippery Rock for many years. Annabel liked bowling, cooking, gardening and mostly she loved spending time with her family.
Annabel was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grove City.
Survivors include, four children, Carol A. Young and her husband, Gary, Sandra E. Campbell and her husband, Robert, Larry L. Filer and his wife, Darlene, all of Mercer, Pa., and Kathleen L. Myers and her husband, Jim, of Slippery Rock; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Gilmore of Grove City.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Virginia Allen.
FILER — Visitation hours for Annabel L. Filer, who died Wednesday, March 9, 2016, will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place at the Crestview Memorial Park, Grove CityMemorials in Annabel's memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 103 Cranberry Road, Grove City.
