Edith Jean Gahagan Checkan

Edith Jean Gahagan Checkan, 92, formerly of Evans City, passed away peacefully in her sleep March 1 while living with her daughter, Janet, in Claypool, Ariz.

She had lived in Claypool for the past four and a half years since the death of her husband, Joseph R. Checkan.

Born Oct. 15, 1923, she owned and operated Jean's Tavern in Evans City for many years before retiring.

Jean had three children, Norma Jean Hartman of Arizona, Gary and his wife, Sherry, of Weaver, Pa., and Janet Cinderich of Arizona.

She also is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

CHECKAN — Edith Jean Checkan, who died Tuesday, March 1, 2016, will be put to rest with her husband at the Butler Memorial Cemetery.
