Donald William Young

Donald William Young, 71, of Butler passed away Friday at Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born Dec. 14, 1944, in Argentine, Pa., the son of the late Frank E. Young and Margaret (Gerwick) Young of Grove City.

Don was a member of the East Butler Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and lay pastor. He has worked for Ervin Amasteel in East Butler.

Don was well known as a singer and songwriter. He performed in various bands and sang gospel music in nursing homes and churches. He was in two clown bands, “Country Clowns” and “Clowning Around.”

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War. Don was in the United Steelworkers Union 6346-09.

Surviving are his wife, Kay (Wilson) Young; his mother, Margaret Norabell “Norie” Young of Grove City; his daughter, Jill (Geoff) Foringer of Meridian; his son, Michael “Sean” Young of Butler; his grandchildren, Joshua Foringer of Crafton, Zakkary Foringer of Meridian, Anna Schmoll of Butler and Steve Young of New Kensington; two sisters, Jean (Paul) Schmidt of Grove City and Shirley (Dewayne) Heller of Franklin; his brother, Larry D. (Liz) Young of Franklin; his mother-in-law, Audrey Wilson of Orchard Manor; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his father.

YOUNG — Services for Donald William Young, who died Friday, March 4, 2016, will be from 2 p.m. to whenever Saturday at the Orchard Manor, 20 Orchard Drive, Grove City, with Mary Kitchen and Bill and Mark Wilson officiating.
