Ruth Ardell Brown

Ruth Ardell Brown, 96, of Slippery Rock passed away at 5:30 a.m. Monday at Grove Manor in Grove City.

She was born Oct. 19, 1919, in West Liberty Borough to the late John C. and Estella Wimer McNees.

She was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church. She married E.B. Brown in 1945. He is deceased.

Ruth graduated from Slippery Rock High School and Slippery Rock State Teachers College, now Slippery Rock University. She later taught school in Mercer County and then at a private school in Texas.

Ruth enjoyed reading, gardening and family genealogy.

She is survived by two sisters, Helen M. McCurdy and Mary M. Thomson; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Freda M. Palmer; and six brothers, John R., who was an infant, Isaac L., Merle T., George O. and Russell P. McNees and Jim Wimer.

BROWN — A viewing and services for Ruth Ardell Brown, who died Monday, March 7, 2016, will be private with the family only and conducted by Nelson Thayer, pastor of the West Liberty United Methodist Church.Arrangements are being handled by the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
