Mars' Leachman earns CC honorsADAMS TWP — Mars eighth-grader Zachary Leachman has been named 2015 USA Track & Field Three Rivers Male Youth Athlete of the Year for cross country.Leachman won the 2015 USATF Three Rivers Association Cross Country Championships and took third at the Region 2 Junior Olympic Championships. He placed among the top 100 at the national meet.He also broke the Mars home course record twice, setting the current record at 10 minutes, 15 seconds on the 1.85 mile course.
Drones banned over game lands?HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Game Commission has given preliminary approval to banning drones over 1.5 million acres of state game lands after reports of the unmanned craft near bald eagles' nests and others interfering with migrating waterfowl.The commission said the preliminary approval came in a unanimous vote Tuesday. Final approval will be considered at a meeting in July.Officials cited at least five instances in which drones disturbed wildlife during this year's snow goose migration season in the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area. Drones have also been reported close to bald eagle nests.
Louisville imposes further sanctionsLOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville has announced additional self-imposed sanctions on its men’s basketball program in the wake of an escort’s allegations, reducing scholarships for the 2017-19 seasons and restricting official recruiting visits and recruiting opportunities for staff.A release on Wednesday stated Louisville will lose one scholarship in each of the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons with official visits reduced by one each in 2016-17 and `17-18.
Drew taking on Vanderbilt hoop postNASHVILLE, Tenn. — Bryce Drew has had a lot of opportunities to leave his alma mater Valparaiso over the past five seasons. He believes Vanderbilt offers everything he wants out of a program.Vanderbilt introduced Drew as its new men’s basketball coach at a news conference on the court at Memorial Gym with his father, former Valparaiso coach Homer Drew, fans and his new players on hand.
