Harold L. Riemer

Harold L. Riemer, 95, of Cabot passed away Friday at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born Feb. 14, 1921, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Philip W. Riemer and Flora A. (Knoch) Riemer.

Harold was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He proudly served in World War II as a tow target reel operator and received the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Harold worked for Pullman Standard, the Riemer Gas Co., the B & O Railroad and the state Department of Transportation. He retired from PPG Research as an electrician. He was awarded Community Service Citations in 1966 and 1967 through PPG.

Harold was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church, where he served as a long standing trustee. Harold was instrumental in the planning and building of the current location of the church. He was also a Little League president, a local school board director, a member of the SEBCO Pool Committee, a Boy Scout leader, a Jefferson Township Planning Committee member and was the founder of the Laura J. Doerr Park.

He was a justice of the peace and a notary public in Jefferson Township for many years.

Harold enjoyed camping, traveling and hunting, and he camped in all the lower 48 states. He loved helping others.

Surviving are his loving wife, Geraldine “Gerry” (Miller) Riemer, whom he married May 9, 1946; his sons, Tom (Cammy) Riemer of Winchester, Va., Gary (Maxine) Riemer of Cabot, Tim (Donna) Riemer of Cabot and Ben (Meg) Riemer of Columbus, Ohio, 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his stepsisters, Ethel Silliman and Betty Penvost.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin P. Riemer and Richard H. Riemer; and his stepsister, Minnie Louise Watt.

RIEMER — Friends of Harold L. Riemer, who died Friday, March 4, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert H. Wilson officiating.Interment with military honors provided by the Saxonburg American Legion 683 will follow at the Saxonburg Memorial Church Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Zion United Methodist Church, 438 Bear Creek Road, Sarver, PA 16055, in memory of Harold L.
