Gun buying attempts land man in trouble

Police: He failed to report history

A Clearfield Township man is accused of illegally trying to buy two guns at different stores two months apart.

State police last week arrested 25-year-old Andrew C. Fink on a pair of felony charges for allegedly lying on applications to buy firearms on Oct. 7 at Chicora Sporting Goods in Chicora and on Dec. 19 at Fenelton Firearms in Clearfield Township.

Police said Fink failed to disclose his criminal history when he tried to buy a Hi-Point .380-caliber pistol from the Chicora store and a Ruger .380-caliber from the Clearfield store.

Under state law, someone convicted of, or currently under indictment for, a felony or any other crime that results in imprisonment for more than one year cannot buy a gun.

Fink, according to court documents, denied having been convicted of any such crimes. But, police said, his 10-page criminal history showed he pleaded guilty to first-degree misdemeanor charges on two separate occasions and to a second-degree misdemeanor charge once.

Each of those charges carried potential prison sentences of more than one year.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Thursday arraigned Fink on two felony charges of unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm and two misdemeanor charges of making a false statement to authorities.

He remains free on his own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing April 26 at Stoughton’s office in Chicora
