Freeport graduate shines for TitansNEW WILMINGTON — Freeport graduate and Westminster College junior softball designated hitter Emily Lindsey had three hits, three runs scored and two RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Pitt-Bradford Tuesday.The Titans (7-11) won the games, 6-5 and 7-4. Lindsey had an RBI double in the first game and a pair of singles in the nightcap.
SRU lacrosse nets 3rd straight winPAINESVILLE, Ohio — Kaytlin Callaghan and Erin Wilcox scored four goals each as the Slippery Rock University women’s lacrosse team defeated Lake Erie College, 15-8, Tuesday night.Danni Wilson added two goals for SRU (6-2), which scored the first seven goals of the game.
Union’s Morris earns all-districtCLARION — Union senior guard Cole Morris has been named second team all-district in basketball by D9Sports.com.Morris averaged 18.2 points, 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game for the Golden Knights.
Mars’ Heinauer entering Pa. HOFADAMS TWP — Mars football coach Scott Heinauer has been named a 2016 inductee into the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.The honor recognizes high school football coaches with more than 15 years of service or 100 wins. Heinauer is 166-93 in 24 seasons at Mars.The Planets finished 10-2 last season and reached the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals.
Elk tag commands $85,000 in auctionHARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s Special Elk Conservation Tag — a license created by the Pa. General Assembly and auctioned off by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to benefit wildlife — commanded a record $85,000 at a March 26 auction.The previous record auction amount for the tag was $52,500.“The impressive total says a lot about Pennsylvania’s elk and how others view the Keystone State and its elk herd,” Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director R. Matthew Hough said. “It’s the reason tens of thousands of hunters line up for a chance at a license, and why visitors flock to the state’s elk range each year during the height of the bugling season.”
Butler grad Huey shines in defeatHUNTINGDON — Butler graduate Matt Huey, a member of the Penn State-Altoona men’s volleyball team, had 19 kills and three service aces in the Lions’ 3-2 loss to Juniata Wednesday night.Huey led the team in kills. He had five block assists as well.
