SRU students do musical dramaThe Slippery Rock University department of music will present “Sister Angelica” at 7 p.m. April 15 and at 3 p.m. April 16 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E. Jefferson St.“Sister Angelica” is an hour-long musical drama. It will be sung and acted by SRU students of diverse major areas of study, and played by an orchestral band of SRU students and area professionals.Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

History group gives lectureThe Butler County Historical Society will present “Marketing the Presidency,” a talk by Steve Mihaly, recently retired vice president of the H.J. Heinz Co. in Pittsburgh.His presentation on April 16 will focus on the array of “odd” artifacts that candidates have produced to get their names and ideas in front of the electorate.Some of the items in the presentation include a James Monroe snuff box promoting the Monroe Doctrine, a Teddy Roosevelt cast iron door stop, an Eisenhower bar of soap with Ike’s image on it and the words “Clean Up with Ike” and a Richard Nixon shower head that has the water squirt out of his mouth, just to name a few.The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the YWCA, 120 W. Cunningham St. and will conclude about 8 p.m.Admission is free but reservations are needed and available by calling 724-283-8116 or sending e-mail to society@butlerhistory.com.

Harrisville Band performsHARRISVILLE — The Harrisville Community Band will perform it annual spring concert at 7 p.m. April 15 at the Harrisville Fire Hall, 313 E. Mercer St.Some selections will include, “All Honor to Old Glory,” “Clear Track Polka,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Highlights From South Pacific.”This volunteer group of musicians is made up of area residents ranging from teenagers to senior citizens.The band is directed by Jim Jaskowak, a music educator in the Grove City School District. The master of ceremonies will be John Snyder of Slippery Rock.Admission is free. Fire department personnel will sell refreshments.
