Wet Young actresses from Cranberry, Sarver perform 'Mermaid' roles
PITTSBURGH — The cast of the Pittsburgh CLO Academy’s presentation of “The Little Mermaid Jr.” features two Butler County students.
Clare Chiusano of Cranberry Township, a student at Haine Middle School, plays Flotsam and Halle Surgil of Sarver, a student at Freeport Middle School, plays Scuttle.
Clare, 12, started at the CLO Academy in the summer of 2012. She has appeared in “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Seussical,” “Hairspray,” and “Peter Pan Jr.” as Tinkerbell. She was last seen as Jane Banks in “Mary Poppins” during the 2015 Pittsburgh CLO summer season at the Benedum Center.
Halle has performed at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh CLO productions of “Annie,” “Gypsy,” and “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” She also has appeared at the CLO Academy in numerous shows including “Catch Me If You Can” and “Anything Goes.”
The All-Academy Musical gives students ages 7 to 18 the opportunity to work with a professional director, music director and choreographer. Every Saturday for nine weeks, students learn the aspects of putting together a fully-staged show, from auditions through performance.
The class culminates in a live public performance at a professional theater venue. “The Little Mermaid Jr.” will go on at 3:30 and 6 p.m. Saturday at the CAPA Theater, Ninth Street and Ft. Duquesne Boulevard.
