William Smith
William Finley Smith, 84, of Slippery Rock Township, Slippery Rock, passed away at 5 a.m. Tuesday at Grove Manor Personal Care.
Bill was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Franklin to Harold Eugene Smith and Pearl Irona Taylor Smith. He married Nora Mae Dunlap July 2, 1950, and she survives at home.
Bill retired from ARMCO Steel in 1989, where he worked in tech services.
He was a member of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a former member of Slippery Rock American Legion.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spoiling grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and an affinity for special stories and sayings.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Penny L. Lawrence and her husband, Paul, of Mercer, Pa.; three sons, Harold B. “Hal” Smith and his wife, Karen, of Grove City, Dwight W. Smith and his wife, Cheryl, of Sarasota, Fla., and David A. Smith and his wife, Terry, of Canton, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Carol “Cal” Smith.
SMITH — The family of William Finley Smith, who died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Also a visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Friday at Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, 130 Franklin, St., Slippery Rock. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Keith McIlwain, pastor of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, presiding.
