Lafayette College closes as dozens illEASTON — State health officials say dozens of students and staff at an eastern Pennsylvania college have been infected by norovirus.Administrators shut down Lafayette College until Monday and are encouraging students to return home. The move is intended to prevent highly contagious norovirus from spreading.The Easton college had said 47 students sought treatment over the weekend “for symptoms consistent with a contagious stomach virus.”Lafayette President Alison Byerly said in an e-mail to the college community that the campus will be cleaned and sanitized through the weekend.Dr. Jennifer Janco of St. Luke’s University Health Network says most people recover from the virus in a few days after experiencing symptoms.

City’s St. Patrick’s Parade is SaturdayPITTSBURGH — The Irish, and those who want to be for a day, will be celebrating in the streets of Pittsburgh.Organizers expect 20,000 people will turn out for the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which will start at 10 a.m. Saturday.Shuttle buses will ferry the crowds from Second Avenue to the Southside from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. A designated ride-share area will be located along East Carson Street.
