Maridon show & tell series set to continue
“The Eclectic Collector” by Carole Fruehstorfer will be the next presentation in “The Collectors,” a new series offered by the Maridon Museum, featuring local residents talking about their art collections.
Fruehstorfer, a member of the Maridon's collections committee, on March 17 will present a sampling of objects she's collected. When asked what she's looking for, she says, “I'll know it when I see it.”
These “show and tell” presentations include objects with stories that reflect the interest and/or passion of the collectors.
Objects will be exhibited in the museum's multipurpose room. Presentations are at 7 p.m. select Thursdays at the museum, 322 N. McKean St. Reservations are required. Call 724-282-0123.
Other installments in the series include:
“Once Upon a Time,” Victorian jewelry by Tammy Gallagher, April 21.
Gallagher, an antique dealer and longtime collector, will talk about and show Victorian jewelry. Attendees may take along a piece of jewelry to share or ask a question.
“The Cat's Meow” by Zelda Wilbert, May 19.
Wilbert started her collection in 1982 at Animal Friends in Pittsburgh when she adopted her first cat, Max. As she travels, she collects figurines, sculptures, jewelry, whimsical pieces and framed art, all with a cat theme. Oil paintings by artist Manuel Adria and a bronze sculpture by Sergio Bustamente are highlights.
The Maridon is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students, and free for children younger than 8 accompanied by an adult. Call 724-282-0123 or visit maridon.org.
