Richard H. “Pete” Amsler

Richard H. “Pete” Amsler, 94, formerly of Erie, Pa., died Wednesday at the Corry Manor, where he had been a resident.

He was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Foxburg, a son of the late Jacob K. and Mildred I. Page Amsler.

Pete was raised and educated in the Pittsburgh area. After he graduated from high school, he moved back to Foxburg.

Pete then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during World War II, under General Arnold and his Gypsy Task Force. He then served in the Air Force Reserves until his discharge in 1961.

In 1946, Pete returned home and moved to Erie. He worked for Erie Resistor for many years before working for the Niagara Plastics Co. Pete worked there as a plant manager until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of the Summit United Methodist Church, the Summit Lions Club, the Society of Plastic Engineers Northwest Pennsylvania Section and the Erie-Penn-Ohio Model A Ford Club. Pete was also a Perry Highway Hose Company volunteer and a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Street Rods of Northwest Pennsylvania, the American Legion, and the Presque Isle Region AACA. He enjoyed old cars, especially Model A's, and he especially enjoyed taking his grandsons to car shows.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death Oct. 12, 2013, by his wife, Betty O. Grazier Amsler, who he married Dec. 24, 1942, in Foxburg; two brothers, Charles “Andy” and Billy Amsler; and one grandson, Benjamin Shipley.

Pete is survived by his daughter, Marcia Shipley and her husband, Layne Party, of Towson, Md.; his son, David Amsler and his wife, Bonnie, of Corry, Pa.; two grandsons, Brian and Stephen Amsler; and several nieces and nephews.

AMSLER — Family and friends of Richard H. Amsler, who died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, are invited to call from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon Saturday at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa. The Rev.
