BlueSox bring back Buck-A-Hit programThe Butler BlueSox' Buck-A-Hit campaign will return for the 2016 season and will benefit the Ellen O'Brien Gaiser Addiction Center.For every BlueSox hit throughout the summer, the BlueSox, Henninger and Robinson, P.C., and NexTier Bank will donate a dollar to the Gaiser Center.Any businesses or individuals interested in joining this campaign may e-mail FrontOffice@ButlerBlueSox.net for more information.This is the fourth year for the Buck-A-Hit campaign, which has contributed more than $5,000 for local charities.The BlueSox open their eighth season May 26 at Kelly Automotive Park.
Wise scores 17 in Panthers' lossGREENSBORO, N.C. — Cranberry Township resident and Pitt freshman forward Brenna Wise scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Panthers' 77-55 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament loss to No. 21 Miami (Fla.) Thursday.Pitt ended its season at 13-18. Wise led the team with 10.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
Warriors tie record home win streakOAKLAND, Calif. — Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors matched one record set by Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls as they close in on the bigger mark.Curry scored 33 points in his return from an ankle injury and the Warriors tied Chicago’s NBA record by winning their 44th straight regular-season home game, 121-106 over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Texans cut Foster after 7 seasonsHOUSTON — Arian Foster’s time with the Houston Texans has ended after seven seasons.The four-time Pro Bowler, who was scheduled to make $6.5 million next season, was released after a season when he missed 12 games with groin and Achilles tendon injuries.The 29-year old Foster spent time on the practice squad before rising to lead the NFL in rushing with 1,616 yards in 2010. Foster ran for 1,246 yards in 2014.
Mickelson cards 67 on Doral courseDORAL, Fla. — Phil Mickelson’s scores from Doral over the past two years clearly suggested that the redesigned Blue Monster wasn’t completely to his liking.But Mickelson shot a 5-under 67 Thursday in the opening round of the Cadillac Championship, the first World Golf Championships event of the year. He finished the day one shot back of leaders Scott Piercy and Marcus Fraser.
