Elizabeth Marie “Bette” Wiegand
Elizabeth Marie “Bette” Wiegand, 90, formerly of East Butler and the Butler Arbors, died Sunday at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.
Born Oct. 3, 1925, in West View, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Edward Bender and Mary (Aland) Bender.
She graduated from Butler Business College, had worked at S.S. Kresge and had volunteered in the library at Butler Catholic School.
She was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, the Tanglewood Center, and the Catholic Daughters of America Butler Court, and she had been a Boy Scout den mother. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, reading, working crosswords and corresponding with friends.
Surviving are her daughters, Linda Cunningham (DuWayne), Sherran Wright (Curtis), Melissa Gallagher (Kevin), all of Butler; one son, John Wiegand (Denise) of Virginia Beach, Va.; her grandchildren, DeLynn Cunningham of Butler, Brent Cunningham (Pam Bunz) of Denver, Colo., April Covert (Robert) of Butler, Ashley Wright (Will Fox) of Butler, Brian Gallagher of Butler and Michael Wiegand and Kelly Wiegand, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a great-grandson, Hunter Covert of Butler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Joseph Wiegand, who she married May 14, 1947, and who died April 6, 2004; her sister, Nell Dugan; her brothers, Louis Bender and Joseph Bender; and her sister, Vernona Mary Bender.
WIEGAND — Friends of Elizabeth Marie “Bette” Wiegand, who died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. The Rev. Harry Bielewicz, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Parish Cemetery.The Womens Council of St. Peter will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church to recite the rosary.Memorial donations may be made to the Meals on Wheels Program, St. Peter's Anglican Church, 218 E.
