A hike through history and nature is planned for Saturday in honor of George Washington’s birthday and his journey through the region. Hikers will meet re-enactors portraying Washington and his guide Christopher Gist, as well as Native Americans the two encountered. The event starts at 8:45 a.m. Exhibits and the re-enactor encampment will be closed about 2 p.m. at Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, Brady Township. Moraine State Park, Muddy Creek Township, will host a winter hike for veterans and their families from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday starting at Pavilion 1 on the South Shore. “River Otters Don’t Use Sleds – But You Can!” will be presented from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Pavilion 1 on the South Shore. Take sleds and dress for the weather. The event will be canceled if weather is severe. A “Growing Up WILD” teacher workshop will be from 9 a.m. to noon April 9 at the Outdoor Center on the North Shore.
