Major Ruth V. Byers, 86, of Butler passed away Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 9, 1929, in Concord Township to the late John J. Byers and Edna May (Barnhart) Byers.

Ruth was a major for the Salvation Army, retiring in 1994.

She is survived by her sister, Helen V. Hindman of Butler, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Bell, Florence Byers and Alice Morrow; and one brother, Ralph Byers.

BYERS — Friends of Major Ruth V. Byers, who died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Major Irene Thibault of the Salvation Army officiating.
