Betty Lou Sapienza

Betty Lou Sapienza, 85, of Zelienople passed away Monday at Passavant Retirement Community.

Born Jan. 13, 1930, in Zelienople, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Augusta Henrietta (McConnell) Trimble.

Betty Lou was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church and a former member of St. Anne's Guild.

For 30 years, she answered emergency phones for the Harmony Volunteer Fire Company. In 1987, Betty Lou was named co-woman of the year by the Business and Professional Women's Club, an honor she shared with her sister-in-law, Betty Sapienza. In her free time, she enjoyed dancing, writing poems and doing word searches. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her three sons, Louis L. (Kathy) Sapienza Jr., Tim M. Sapienza and Mark E. Sapienza, all of Harmony; four daughters, Colette (Tom) Kuli of Cranberry Township, Maria (Richard) Meyer of Harmony, Gina (Joseph) Wehner of Pittsburgh and Beth Sutton of Evans City; her sister, Alice (Andy) Mignanelli of Zelienople; 12 grandchildren, Jason and Anthony Sapienza, Matt and Jenn Kuli, Jesse Meyer, Jamie (Joe) Scherer, Sarah (Troy) Erdlen, Jeremy Wehner and Daniel, Joshua (Meg), Kristen and Autumn Sutton; one great-grandson, Rylan Erdlen; and four sisters-in-law.

In addition to her parents, Betty Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis L. Sapienza Sr., who passed away Nov. 6, 2010; four brothers; and seven sisters.

SAPIENZA — The family of Betty Lou Sapienza, who died Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 West Beaver St., Zelienople, with the Rev. Michael Roche officiating.Betty Lou will be laid to rest at the St. Gregory Catholic Church Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made in her honor to St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 West Beaver St., Zelienople, PA 16063.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
