Zelie will get $700K for pool
ZELIENOPLE — The borough has received an official announcement that it will get a $700,000 state grant to help renovate the municipal swimming pool.
That announcement came Tuesday from the office of state Sen. Elder Vogel, R-47.
Potential features for the new pool include zero-grade entry into the pool to better accommodate those with physical challenges and toddlers and swimming lanes for competition.
Also a filtration building. installation of equipment and utilities, bathhouse improvements, and landscaping will be included.
A storm drainage system will be installed to deter water from the adjacent creek overflowing at the pool in heavy rains.
A diving board also is being considered.
“It is in desperate need of repair,” said Mary Hess, a council member and a former pool committee member. “It’s a huge asset to the community. I don’t know what we would do without it.”
The overall cost of just renovating the pool is about $1.5 million. With additional landscaping and amenities, the cost would be about $2.3 million.
The borough was notified in September that it would receive the grant.
