Steelers fan loses wager, and her hair, as team falls

Joe Cook cuts Jamie Sue Enscoe's hair on Sunday after Cook won his bet on the Steelers game.
Longtime Broncos backer claims pelt after game

WASHINGTON TWP — Steelers fan Jamie Sue Enscoe has never been much of a hat-wearing type of person.

But with the bitter temperatures and her new hairdo, she’s reconsidering.

Enscoe bet on the black and gold to win Sunday’s NFL playoff game against the Denver Broncos and lost — her hair.

She lost her hair because she had bet Joe Cook, a longtime friend and big Broncos fan, that the Steelers would win. The loser would lose their locks.

After the game, Cook quickly visited Enscoe at the Beer Garden, which Enscoe owns, and did the cutting in front of a crowd.

About 150 people attended a bonfire and party at the Beer Garden to watch the game. However, Enscoe said a number of those people had to work early and had left before Cook and the clippers arrived.

Immediately after her head was shaved “it looked like I had the mange,” Enscoe said, so a friend finished it nicely.

Cook of Eau Claire said he’s been a Denver fan since the time John Elway played quarterback there in the 1980s and 1990s.

“I liked the way he played the game,” he said.

Living in Butler County his whole life, he has taken a lot of ribbing for his team of choice. And ultimately he got a haircut of his own in 2006 when he and Enscoe made the same bet and the Steelers beat the Broncos as the Steelers were on their way to winning the Super Bowl.

But this time, the outcome was different, and Cook sent an “On my way” text message as soon as the game ended in his favor.

Toward the end of the game as Enscoe was watching, she said she was “chuckling and thinking, ‘this isn’t good ... my hair doesn’t grow very fast.’”
