Karns City adds 4 new AP classes
KARNS CITY — The Karns City School District will offer five Advanced Placement classes to its high school students in the 2016-2017 school year.
On Monday night, the school board approved the new curriculum guide, which will add four AP classes to the one currently being taught, the first level of calculus, according to Superintendent Eric Ritzert.
In the fall, the high school will add the second level of calculus, literature and composition, world history and chemistry as AP classes, Ritzert said.
“We have not had a lot of opportunities for students to take AP coursework,” he said. “We’re trying to increase (AP availability).”
The new AP classes will be taught by staff already with the district, and the district will look into adding more AP classes based on interest and staffing capacity in the future, Ritzert said.
