The Butler Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign passed its $97,500 goal this year thanks to a last-minute $10,000 donation.

The center collected $102,971, according to Amy Tebay, Butler center administrative assistant.

Tebay said she was concerned at the beginning of the holiday season because the organization had a shortage of locations and volunteers to ring bells at its kettle collection sites.

“We were very lucky to make that goal this year,” she said.

Tebay said the center would have been under its goal if it had not received the $10,000 anonymous donation.

The Western Pennsylvania division met its goals too, but not everywhere, forcing some centers to make tough decisions.

Major Deborah Sedlar, the Western Pennsylvania divisional commander, said the division exceeded its goal of $2.7 million.

“We are so grateful for the generosity of Western Pennsylvanians,” Sedlar said.

“Unfortunately, there are still several worship and service centers who will be re-evaluating their budgets and trying hard to make up for the shortfalls of their campaigns to avoid cutting programs.

“In fact, 10 of the 39 centers were short of their respective goals,” Sedlar said.

Tebay said she was concerned Butler would be on that list, but was pleasantly surprised.

“We were just truly blessed this year,” she said. “Butler County definitely pulled through.”
