James William Clark

James William Clark

James William Clark, 79, of Cowansville died peacefully Wednesday at home.

Born March 28, 1936, in Venango County, he was the son of Margaret (Elder) and Gordon J. Clark.

A 1954 graduate of East Brady High School, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Bexar during the Cold War.

He attended the Worthington Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Sherrett United Methodist Church. A Free Mason holding his membership in the Seneca Lodge 805 in Kittanning, he belonged to the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle and Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh.

James and his wife, Nancy, owned and operated Clark Mart in Cowansville for 40 years. James took great pleasure in greeting his customers and serving the community during these years. Before settling in Cowansville, he lived and worked in Cleveland, Ohio; Buffalo, N.Y., and Sparrows Point, Md.

He enjoyed baseball, having played locally and with Navy teams during his younger years. Later in life he enjoyed baseball as a spectator.

He was the husband of 54 years of Nancy (Marshall) Clark; the father of Sandra (Kenneth) Bracken of Kittanning, Cheryl Clark of Worthington, Gary (Nicole) Clark of Creekside, Pa., and Gordon (Heather) Clark of Manor Township, Pa.; the grandfather of Amy (Ian) Shinneman of Worthington, Jamie Kamerer of Chicora, Edward and James Clark of Creekside, Bruce, Jonathon and Nathaniel Clark of Manor Township; and the great-grandfather of Ella and Lily Shinneman of Worthington.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren listed above, James is survived by his brother, Dennis (Wanda) Clark of Strattonville; his sisters, Eva Smith of Kittanning, Alma Getz of Erie, Margaret Bouch of Worthington, June (John) Forringer of Harrison City and Dian (Larry) Wolfe of Kittanning; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessie; and his siblings Clair, Glenn, Mable, Loyal, Verdean, Donald, Wayne and John.

CLARK — Friends of James William Clark, who died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday; from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday; and from 12:30 until time of services at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME in Cowansville with the Rev. Hughie Orsborn assisted by the Rev. Hester Shick co-officiating.Interment will be in Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery.
