Police: Pittsburgh man found with bags of marijuana

PENN TWP — Less than three months after Butler police arrested him for having hundreds of bags of heroin in his car, a Pittsburgh man this week was allegedly found with bags of suspected marijuana.

Penn Township police on Thursday arrested Wallace Goldston III, 21, on charges of felony and misdemeanor drug possession.

The charges stem from a call at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday for a report of two people fighting in a car at a business parking lot on Route 8.

Officers found the defendant and a 19-year-old Fayette County woman in the car, which reeked of marijuana, according to court documents.

Goldston refused to give police consent to search the vehicle.

However, officers later obtained a search warrant after a police dog brought to the scene indicated the possible presence of drugs in the car.

The search, documents said, turned up three plastic sandwich bags filled with suspected marijuana. The evidence was sent to the state police crime lab in Westmoreland County for testing.

A preliminary weight of the suspected drugs was not indicated in charging documents or in the search warrant papers; however, it was enough for police to charge Goldston with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

District Judge Sue Haggerty on Thursday arraigned the defendant on that felony charge and other misdemeanor possession charges. He is free on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Goldston, meanwhile, is already awaiting trial in an earlier felony drug case in Butler.

City police on Oct. 15 arrested Goldston and another Pittsburgh man following a traffic stop on West Cunningham Street.

Eventually, documents said, a search of the car that Goldston was driving revealed 273 bags of heroin and a glass jar containing several grams of marijuana.

Goldston and the other man, Kelan E. Johnson, 30, are both charged with felony and misdemeanor possession. Their cases are pending in Butler County Court.
