Teen charged after altercation
Butler police say a teenager turned a golf club into a weapon that he used to threaten his mother.
When he broke the club after smashing it on a car Monday, he again threatened his mother, this time with a baseball bat.
Police arrested Jacob T. McCall, 19, who has no known address, after the altercation at Cynthia McCall’s home on Fourth Avenue. No injuries were reported.
Officers were called after neighbors phoned 911 to report a man, armed with a golf club, breaking the window of his mother’s vehicle and screaming at her, according to court documents.
When police got there, the defendant was nearby and appeared to be squaring off with one of the neighbors who had stepped in to help Cynthia McCall, documents said.
Cynthia McCall told police that she began arguing with her son after she returned home to find him inside. She asked him if he had broken in.
“Cynthia stated the argument quickly escalated with Jacob grabbing a gold club and telling her that he would kill her with it,” according to a police affidavit.
A short time later, she recounted, her son went outside and smashed out the window of her vehicle with the club.
“At some point the golf club broke and Jacob picked up a baseball bat and again threatened Cynthia with it,” the affidavit said.
McCall admitted he argued with his mother and broke out her car window. However, documents said, he claimed he only wielded the bat to fend off neighbors who intervened during the domestic dispute.
District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned the defendant on misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
He was placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.
