Butler Township officials swear inBUTLER TWP — Township commissioners and dozens of officials from the township’s three volunteer fire departments were sworn into office Monday.Butler County President Judge Thomas Doerr administered the oaths of office for township Commissioners Dave Zarnick, Joseph Wiest and James Lokhaiser Jr. and the fire officials.Following the swearing-in, township officials made these appointments: Ed Kirkwood as township manager; Teresa Giesler as secretary; Marsha Love as treasurer; the law firm of Lutz and Pawk as solicitor; Gateway Engineering as engineer; and Professional Code Services as sewage enforcement officer and third party code inspector and plan reviewer.
Jackson selects Geis as chairmanJACKSON TWP — Trent Geis of Zelienople was chosen as chairman and Allan Osterwise as vice chairman of the township supervisors Monday.Geis was vice chairman last year. He is in the third year of his six-year term.He is also a member of the Zelienople Library Board, and he had been a member of the township planning commission.Geis said, “We’re going to try to do as many good things for the residents as we possibly can with the dollars we have.”Geis succeeds Ron Lutz, who was chairman for the past two years. Lutz does not plan to seek re-election when his term is up in 2017.Osterwise has served one year of his six-year term.
Rep. Ellis invites veterans to officeLYNDORA — State Rep. Brian Ellis, R-11th, invites veterans to attend monthly assistance hours at his district office in Lyndora.The hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second Friday of each month. Larry Michaelis, department service officer with the American Legion, is available to assist veterans and their families with such issues as compensation, pension, death benefits, education and health care.Veterans do not have to be a member of the American Legion to receive services.Those interested in scheduling an appointment can contact Ellis’ Lyndora office at 724-283-5852.
