Butler man charged with assaulting girl
A Butler man later this month will have a hearing on allegations that he inappropriately touched a girl in 2007 when she was 12 years old.
According to court records, the girl alleges 45-year-old Arthur R. Vanscoy groped her while she attended a party at his home, then in Fenelton.
The girl alleges that during the party, Vanscoy pulled her into a room and showed her about a dozen pictures of himself masturbating and people having sex. The images were on a cell phone according to court records.
The girl alleges Vanscoy told her when she turned 18 “he wanted to marry her and have kids with her,” according to court records.
When interviewed, Vanscoy described the victim as “flirtatious” but denied the allegations, according to court records.
When asked how the girl was able to identify a scar and piercing in Vanscoy’s genital area, he said the girl must have looked at his phone when he was not paying attention.
Vanscoy is charged with misdemeanor counts of indecent assault, public display of obscene materials and corruption of minors.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 26 in the Chicora office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
