Police: Drill used to threaten wife
WASHINGTON TWP — A township man is accused of brandishing a power drill and threatening his wife with it during an argument at their home on Kohlmeyer Road.
Barry Lee Blum Jr., 37, faces a hearing Tuesday stemming from last week’s alleged assault.
Free on nonmonetary bail, he is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.
State police suspect Blum and his wife, Merrie Blum, got into a domestic dispute about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 28.
According to court documents, he placed his hands on her face and shoved her. Blum also is accused of grabbing her leg and pushing her, causing her to flip over and cut a finger.
Later, police said, he grabbed his wife by the throat with his left hand while holding a working power drill in his right hand. He held the drill with a bit in it to her throat.
“A visible mark was observed on the victim’s throat where the drill made contact with her neck,” according to a police affidavit.
At his arraignment, Blum told District Judge Sue Haggerty that he is self-employed and has four children.
His preliminary hearing is set for 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.
