Howard Lynn Smock Sr.

Howard Lynn Smock Sr., 89, of South Buffalo Township passed away peacefully Tuesday at his home.

Lynn was born Jan. 3, 1926, on his family's farm in South Buffalo Township. He was the son of the late Mary (Garver) and Joseph Smock.

Lynn served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater.

After his service to his country, he went to work as a supervisor at Moonlight Mushroom for over 30 years, retiring in 1978. After he retired from the mushroom mine, he worked for a number of years at Devereaux Chevrolet in Freeport.

He was a lifetime member of the Freeport United Methodist Church. Lynn enjoyed hunting, feeding the animals around his home, caring for his gold fish pond and flower gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Luella (Sims) Smock, and two sons, H. Lynn (Mary) Smock Jr. of Buffalo Township and Gerald A. (Cheryl) Smock of Winfield Township. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Tracy Smock and Greg King, Jennifer (Travis) Pearce, Nathan (Chloe) Smock, Heather (Tim) Buck, Jason (Melissa) Smock and Michael (Becky) Smock. Lynn also is survived by his 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his son, Larry J. Smock, who passed away in 1991; his brothers, Calvin, Wayne, Donald, Charles and Arthur Smock; and his sisters, Joyce Smock, Bess Hoak, Verna Hartman, Martha Smock and Marie Schuey.

SMOCK — Family and friends of Howard Lynn Smock Sr., who died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.Funeral services will be at noon Friday at the Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 High St., Freeport, with the Rev. James G.
