Robert Russell “Bob” Masters

Robert Russell “Bob” Masters, 90, of Butler went home Friday to be with the Lord.

Born June 3, 1925, in Butler, he was the son of the late James L. and Mary E. Masters.

Bob was a graduate of Butler High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during World War II as an electrician on a mine sweeper.

Following his service in the Navy, he attended Bliss Electrical School and then returned to Butler and worked at ARMCO Steel. Soon thereafter, he became the office manager at C.T. Dumbaugh General Contractor where he remained until his retirement.

On Feb. 18, 1954, he married Sarah “Sally” Masters. Together they enjoyed bridge club, entertaining at their cottage and spending time with family and friends.

Bob was a dedicated member of the former Calvary Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he was active as an elder and served on numerous committees. Bob was also a 57-year member of Butler Victory Lodge 694 Free and Accepted Masons, Butler. He enjoyed stamp collecting and was a member of Butler County Philatelic Society. In addition, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and working outdoors.

Bob will be remembered by his family and friends for making caramels during the Christmas holidays. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

Surviving are his two daughters, Marcia Holl and her husband, David, and Hollie Stevenson and her husband, Bryan; three grandchildren, Maggie Holl, Clare Stevenson and Adam Holl; his sister-in-law, Nancy Dumbaugh Farinelli and her husband, John; and his brother-in-law, Robert Hofer, all of Butler. He also has several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Dumbaugh Masters, who passed away Dec. 4, 2014, and his sister, Janet M. Hofer.

MASTERS — A memorial service for Robert Russell “Bob” Masters, who died Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace @Calvary Lutheran Church on the Diamond in downtown Butler with the Rev. Tara Lynn, pastor of Grace @Calvary Lutheran Church, officiating.Arrangements are being handled by Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Seneca Hills Bible Conference, 276 Damascus Road, Polk, PA 16342-4909.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
