Man arrested for threatening police after traffic stop

Andrew Devlin

SAXONBURG — A borough man is in prison for allegedly threatening to kill a police officer on Facebook after he was pulled over for a traffic violation.

Andrew Devlin, 39, on Tuesday was charged with two felony counts of making terroristic threats after he allegedly stated “I will murder a cop” on the social media site shortly after he was pulled over by a Saxonburg police officer for not having an inspection sticker on his vehicle.

Devlin was arrested Tuesday night and taken to Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail.

State police in Butler said Devlin, who was driving a vehicle with an Ohio license plate, was first pulled over by borough police on Dec. 13 for failing to stop at a stop sign.

Devlin was stopped again in the borough on Dec. 27 for not having a valid inspection sticker. During the second traffic stop, the borough police officer realized the Devlin had his registration issue corrected but had not yet had the car inspected. The officer issued Devlin a warning.

A short time later it was discovered Devlin had made multiple postings to his Facebook account commenting on the two traffic stops, according to court documents.

In one post about the traffic stops he allegedly wrote “your lucky you (expletive) I controlled myself.”

Police said Devlin allegedly wrote in a second post “I will murder a cop.”

In the comments of that second post, someone told Devlin to settle down, in which he allegedly replied “watch me. don’t tell me what to do.”

Borough police said the threat was taken seriously and they took additional safety measures.
