Christmas in the Park lights up Grove City
GROVE CITY — Now in its seventh year, Christmas in the Park has become a staple for many residents.
More than 25 displays featuring lights and decorations were put up Nov. 27 and will remain in the Grove City Community Park until Jan. 2, said Beth Black, Chamber of Commerce director.
The displays are lit up from 5 to 11 p.m. every night and free candy canes are offered from 6 to 9 p.m. on weekends. There is no fee for admission, but donations are accepted to defray operating costs.
The chamber started organizing the holiday display in 2009 with the intention of giving the people of the area a free attraction, Black said.
Each display is done by a business, community organization or individual. The first weekend of the display, a panel of judges awards first-, second- and third-place awards and ballots are collected for a People's Choice award and a Kid's Choice award.
The chamber estimates that thousands of people take a drive though the park to see the displays each year.
“It's something everyone can enjoy. There are people that go through every night with their kids,” Black said.
This year's award winners are:
• 1st Place — Canine Confections
• 2nd Place — Orchard Manor
• 3rd Place — VF Outlet
• People's Choice — Click Family Chiropractic
• Kid's Choice — Grove City High School art class.
