Esther Edgar-Glass-Salem
Esther Edgar-Glass-Salem, 85, passed away peacefully Nov. 1 at her home in Columbus, Ohio, with family by her side. It was All Saints' Day.
She was born March 10, 1930, in Fairpoint, Ohio, to James Edgar and Rhoda (Baker) Edgar.
She attended St. Clairsville High School in Ohio, Class of 1948. She was a member of her school choir, an honored thespian of the dramatics theater club and head cheerleader of her class.
She left her home several years later, moving to Butler, where she worked at the Charming Shoppes. She met and married, her first husband, Earl W. Glass, who preceded her in death.
Later in her life, she worked for the Butler Holiday Inn as head hostess and divisional planner.
She had a beautiful voice and sang for many venues and events in Butler. She was also involved with the Butler Little Theatre, appearing in many plays and receiving great reviews for her performances.
Esther was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to many. A very giving, kind and strong woman, she worked hard and showed her love through her actions and words.
Her enduring faith in God sustained her through the many trials of her life. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Michael Salem of Columbus, Ohio; her daughters, Rhodara “Rhodie” Susan Glass-Main-Shreve and her husband, Mark Shreve of Columbus, Ohio, Terri Lynn Glass-Hidock and her husband, Stephen Hidock, of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Beth Ann Glass-Goettler of Columbus, Ohio; her stepson, William “Bill” Salem of Boston, Mass.; her grandchildren, Victoria “Tory” Elizabeth Main, Julia Lynn Shreve and Breanna Marie Goettler; her two great-granddaughters, Amelia Ryan Bretz and Alayna Marie Neal; and her grandson, Jericho Gene Nicholson.
She was preceded in death by five brothers; three sisters; and her third child and only son, Gary Curtis Glass, who died tragically at the age of 18.
SALEM — A private family service for Esther Edgar-Glass-Salem, who died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, will be in Columbus, Ohio, during the Christmas holiday.A public Mass will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Church of St. Katherine Drexel, Egg Harbor Township, N.J.Condolences may be sent to the Family of Esther Salem, 415 Heatherbridge Lane, Blacklick, OH 43004.A service in Butler may take place later when her ashes will be laid to rest with her son at Butler Memorial Cemetery.
