Snow-covered, icy roads lead to crashes in county
Emergency crews responded to multiple vehicle accidents Friday night during the first accumulating snowfall of the winter.
Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Route 68 in Connoquenessing Township at 11:37 p.m.
State police said a pickup truck driven by Richard J. Belles, 19, of Evans City slid across the road and struck an embankment near the Connoquenessing Elementary School. The truck went back on the road and collided with a car driven by Kimberly Culbertson, 49, of Butler.
Culbertson had to be extricated by the Butler Township Fire District 3 and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Belles also was taken to the hospital with injuries.
Police said a 16-year-old boy in Culbertson’s vehicle was injured but was not taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Both vehicles suffered major damage and were towed. Belles was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
About 9 p.m. multiple vehicles were reportedly stuck on Bonniebrook Road on the hill leading down to Route 422 following a two-vehicle accident.
No one was injured in the crash.
One person was taken to a hospital following a vehicle accident on Ekastown Road in Buffalo Township early this morning.
The accident occurred about 1:20 a.m. Emergency crews responded on reports of a fallen utility pole and wires, according to 911 reports.
Other vehicle accidents were reported in Butler city and Cranberry Township.
