Mover faces theft, drug charges

CRANBERRY TWP — A Pittsburgh man is facing charges for allegedly stealing cash and a necklace for a combined value of $2,116 while on the job.

Gregg Morsillo, 28, has waived to court charges of theft, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana filed Nov. 18 by Cranberry Township police.

Morsillo’s formal arraignment is Jan. 12.

On Nov. 18, township police responded to 157 Winterbrook Drive for a report of a theft, according to court documents.

Police met with homeowner Ann Johnson whose family was moving.

Two employees of the moving company were working in the house when Johnson found that an envelope with $1,115 in cash was missing from her purse, the documents state.

She confronted the two movers — Morsillo and his coworker — who both denied stealing anything, the documents state. Morsillo walked out of the house, and Johnson followed him to a car. Morsillo took the envelope out of his backpack and handed it to Johnson.

Johnson called Morsillo’s supervisor who contacted the police.

When confronted by police, Morsillo stated he found the envelope and did not know how much money was in it, but he did take the envelope. He told police that he had not taken anything else.

According to the documents, he said his coworker had no knowledge that he took the money.

The police searched the two men and the car.

Inside was a backpack that Morsillo said was his, the documents state. In the backpack police found a gold ribbon necklace that Morsillo claimed was his grandfather’s. But Johnson confirmed the necklace was bought by her husband and is worth about $1,000.

According to the documents, also in the backpack was a suboxone film package, a glass pipe with suspected marijuana residue and suspected marijuana.

Morsillo told police that he did not have a prescription for suboxone and that the marijuana was his.

The cash and necklace were returned to Johnson.
