Council OKs budget with no tax increase
ZELIENOPLE — Borough council Monday night approved the $10.57 million borough budget for 2016 that has no tax increases.
The borough’s property tax rate is 5.31 mills.
Council President Allen Bayer credited the finance committee for “a great job” and said the budget is “good.”
“We didn’t have to raise any revenue or taxes,” Bayer said. “The borough stays steady.”
Borough manager Don Pepe said, “If you look back historically, the tax rate has essentially remained the same for a really long time. There’s not going to be any huge, unexpected increases unless something catastrophic happens.”
A mill equals $1 in tax revenue for each $1,000 of a property’s assessed value. Each mill generates $28,854.
