Hearing set for pair accused in road rage, gun incident

A Marion Township couple faces a hearing next month on charges stemming from a case of suspected road rage during which a gun was pulled on the alleged victim.

State police said the suspects — Joseph Lee Arblaster Jr., 42, and Crystal G. Arblaster, 38 — were traveling in a minivan about 9 a.m. June 26 when a car passed them on Boyers Road in Marion Township.

The car's driver, James Goerhing, a short time later slammed on his brakes to avoid a deer on the road. In turn, Crystal Arblaster, who was driving the van, had to suddenly hit her brakes.

The chain-reaction incident apparently touched off the road rage, police said, with the suspects chasing after Goerhing's car.

Goerhing eventually pulled into the parking lot of Butcherine's Beer Distributor on Route 308. The Arblasters were close behind in their van.

Crystal Arblaster got out and approached the driver's side window of the car and started “cursing and yelling” at Goerhing, a police affidavit said.

The alleged victim grabbed a digital camera and videotaped what police called the woman's “rant.”

Documents said Joseph Arblaster, who remained in the passenger seat, pointed a handgun at Goerhing. Both defendants later drove away and no one was injured.

Before he filed charges on Dec. 3, Trooper Scott Altman said he reviewed Goerhing's video recording and spoke to a witness who saw the altercation, including Joseph Arblaster pointing the gun at Goerhing.

Both suspects are charged with disorderly conduct. Joseph Arblaster is also charged with terroristic threats and reckless endangerment.

Preliminary hearings for the Arblasters are set for Jan. 12 at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.
