[naviga:h3]Cubs sign Zobrist, deal Castro to Yanks[/naviga:h3]
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In another move to get younger and balance their batting order, the New York Yankees acquired infielder Starlin Castro from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Adam Warren and a player to be named.
The 25-year-old Castro hit .265 with 11 homers and 69 RBIs last season, when he batted .281 against left-handers. A right-handed hitter, he has spent most of his career at shortstop, but moved to second base in mid-August to make room for rookie Addison Russell.
Earlier in the day, the Cubs agreed to a $56 million, four-year contract with free-agent infielder Ben Zobrist, who figures to take over at second.
[naviga:h3]D’Backs get Miller for 3 prospects[/naviga:h3]
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to acquire All-Star right-hander Shelby Miller from the Atlanta Braves for overall No. 1 draft pick Dansby Swanson, outfielder Ender Inciarte and pitching prospect Aaron Blair, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.
The Diamondbacks also would get minor league left-hander Gabe Speier in a trade that would give Arizona its second top-flight starter in one day. Earlier, free agent Zack Greinke finalized a $206.5 million, six-year contract with the team.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the trade is pending approval of medical records.
[naviga:h3]Manziel starting for Browns Sunday[/naviga:h3]
CLEVELAND — Johnny Manziel’s timeout has ended. He’s starting for the Browns again.
The polarizing quarterback will play Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, returning to the lineup after being benched two games by coach Mike Pettine for defiantly partying during the team’s bye week.
Pettine is giving Manziel another chance after the second-year QB broke a promise that he wouldn’t become a distraction when the team was off last month. Manziel had been named the starter for Cleveland’s final six games on Nov. 17 only to throw away the opportunity with his escapades.
