John B. “Boze” Gianneschi

John B. “Boze” Gianneschi, 99, of Butler peacefully passed away Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 23, 1915, in Butler, he was a son of the late Pietro and Elvira Marchetti Gianneschi.

John, with his late brother Frank, managed the auto body shop at the Butler County Motor Co. for many years.

A World War II veteran, John served in combat in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a technician fourth grade in the 726th Amphibian Tractor Battalion.

He was a lifelong member of the Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, where he was a longtime usher and a member of the Holy Name Society.

A friendly, outgoing man, John always looked forward to meeting new people and entertaining his family and friends with stories of his childhood and life on the South Side. An active man his entire life, John was a hunter and bowler and golfed through his 98th year.

He was a loving father and father-in-law to his daughters, Mary Ellen Vrable and her husband, Richard, of Strongsville, Ohio, and Lois Gianneschi, of Doylestown, Pa.; his sons, John B. Gianneschi Jr. of Gahanna, Ohio, Thomas A. Gianneschi and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Lahaina, Hawaii, and Richard G. Gianneschi and his wife, Kathy, of Lyndora; and his former daughter-in-law, Gail Gianneschi, of York, Pa.; and the loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Allison Connaghan and her husband, John of Dorchester, Mass., and Michael Gianneschi of Lyndora.

John was the center around which his family revolved, and his presence, guidance and love will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Mae Miller Gianneschi, who passed away Nov. 16, 2006; three sisters, Anita Spinetti, Bruna DeRita and Rita Presto; and two brothers, Frank Gianneschi and Nello Gianneschi.

GIANNESCHI — Friends of John B. “Boze” Gianneschi, who died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, will be received from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler. Burial will take place in Saint Michael's Cemetery.Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 778 and the VFW Post 249.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in John's name to Saint Michael the Archangel Church or to Butler Catholic School, 515 E, Locust St., Butler, PA 16001.For more information, please visit www.martinfh.net.
