Well, boys and girls.

Here we are again.

One Butler County area football team standing.

And it's Karns City.

It seems every year I am lauding the mighty, mighty Gremlins for being the lone survivor come the end of the football season.

And there's a reason why.

The Gremlins are good.

Always.

Karns City has been even better this season, rolling to an 11-0 record and scoring a whopping 51 points per game.

But the Gremlins will face Bedford Friday in an inter-district PIAA Class AA playoff game.

The Bisons have been just as formidable this season, also boasting of an 11-0 record and have scored 40 points per game.

It should be a heck of a battle.

Before I get to my pick, let me pose reasons why each team could win this game.

Reasons why Karns City could win

Home cooking. Karns City will take on Bedford in the cozy confines of Diehl Stadium.

It's very unusual for a team to host a playoff game this late in the season, but the Gremlins are and Karns City plays well at home.

The last time the Gremlins lost a home game was in 2012 when they lost to Oil City. That's 17 consecutive home wins.

Diverse running game. The Gremlins are a very difficult team to defend.

Karns City doesn't have a 1,000-yard rusher, but it has four players with more than 400 yards and are averaging nearly eight yards per rushing attempt.

The backs are also versatile. Some are bruisers like Mav Kelsea. Some are speedsters like Collin Dunmyre and Kaiden Powers and some are hybrids like Chandler Turner.

Reasons why Bedford could win

Seniors. Bedford has a lot of them. Like 20 of them and most play significant roles for the Bisons.

Their top four rushers are seniors. Their quarterback is a senior. Their top four receivers are seniors.

Seniors don't make a lot of mistakes. Bedford is a very fundamentally sound team.

Road attitude. While no one really wants to make a three-hour bus ride the day after Thanksgiving to play a high school football playoff game, sometimes a trip like that can galvanize a team.

It did for Karns City last season when it made the trip to Chestnut Ridge and beat the Lions.

So, what's my pick?

Before I get to that, I achieved one of my (minor) goals this season and reached 100 wins. After a 3-1 week, I ran my season record to 102-25.

Let's see if I can get win 103.

My pick: Karns City 25, Bedford 24.
