Woman accused of stealing money from boyfriend

A 42-year-old woman allegedly tried to take thousands of dollars from a Jackson Township man she started dating a month earlier.

According to court records, the alleged victim told police that he wrote two personal checks to Christine Taylor of Volant, Lawrence County, to help her out with bills: $540 for car insurance and $250 for an electric bill.

However, the victim’s bank alerted him when Taylor attempted to cash the checks herself, allegedly altered to pay $5,401 and $12,500.

According to court records, Taylor received the $5,401 but was denied the $12,500 because the victim did not have the money in his account to cover the check.

Taylor, when contacted by Jackson Township police, alleged the victim agreed to give her the money. She told investigators her boyfriend had asked her to write out the checks herself, and this is “just a misunderstanding,” according to court records.

Taylor is charged with four felonies: theft, access device altered and two counts of forgery.

She also faces one count of driving while her license is suspended because the investigating officer reportedly approached Taylor as she was driving to the alleged boyfriend’s house to retrieve some belongings, according to court records.

Taylor, according to court records, in the past 10 years has 13 violations of driving while license is suspended and two violations of driving while under suspension.

Also on her criminal record in Butler and Lawrence counties are convictions for retail theft, endangering the welfare of children and theft.

Taylor is scheduled for a formal arraignment in Butler County Court on Dec. 22.
