Watson Vance “Smitty” Smith, 88, of Portersville passed away Thursday evening with his loving family by his side.

Born Sept. 22, 1927, in Fombell, he was the son of the late W. John and Mary Rachel Steffler Smith.

He is a U.S. Army veteran.

Retiring at age 85, he will be remembered by many for his hard working ethics throughout the years as a truck driver for numerous local trucking businesses.

He loved his family and grandchildren, traveling, farming and raising cattle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Diane (Kummer) Herold Smith, who he married Nov. 16, 1985; his son, Gary (Kathy) Smith of New Castle; his stepchildren, Robert D. Robinson Jr. of Butler, Dee Ann Cross of Butler and Sherry (David) Fountain of Portersville; two grandsons, Bruce (Jennifer) Smith and Ryan Smith, all of New Castle; his step-grandchildren, Tyler Fountain, Abby Fountain, Kristi Cross, Kelly Cross, Klint Cross, Misty Robinson and Todd Robinson; his great-granddaughter, Luci Smith; his step-great-grandson, Hendrix Myers; and his siblings, Becky Yereace of Edinburg, Lill (Charles) Gardner of Ellwood City and James Smith of Beaver Falls.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sons; his step-granddaughter, Megan Ann Fountain; three brothers, Leroy E. Smith, Joseph Smith and Clifford Smith; and two sisters, Maria Mathas and Isabel Goehring.
