Three speakers will provide information during an addiction awareness program at 7 p.m. Thursday in Founders Hall of Butler County Community College, 107 College Drive.

Organized by Hope for Broken Hearts, the program will include Dr. Neil Capretto, medical director of Gateway Rehabilitation, who will present a medical viewpoint of addiction and overdose, and Detective Tim Fennell, coordinator of the Butler County Drug Task Force, who will present a criminal justice viewpoint.

Linda Franiewski, executive director of the Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Center, will help attendees understand overdoses. She also will discuss problems and solutions.

The event will be sponsored by the Center for Community Resources, the Ellen O’Brien Gaiser Center and the Alliance for Nonprofit Resources.

Library hosts Christmas sale

FREEPORT — Freeport Area Library, 428 Market St., is accepting flea market items for its Christmas sale. The flea market and a bake sale will be during the Freeport Christmas celebration from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 5 at the library.

Seasonal decorations, other holiday items and baked goods will be available at the sale. There also will be a variety of household, vintage and collectible items and thousands of used books.

The library will accept donations of household goods, flea market items and used books for the sale and throughout the year.

Safe driving courses offered

Seniors for Safe Driving will host the following classes for those age 55 and older:

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 10, Cranberry Senior Center, Cranberry Township

5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Dec. 15, Kelly Chevrolet, Butler

8 a.m. to noon, Dec. 16, Troy Alan Chevrolet

8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 18, Butler Memorial Hospital

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 21, Passavant Retirement Community.

Seniors completing the course will receive a 5 percent reduction in their automobile insurance premiums for three years.
