Well, it's going to be another sad season for Scoop.

With just 96 wins, I have no legitimate shot at 110 wins this season.

Boo.

I do, though, have a good shot at 100 and the century marks isn't all that bad.

And my 81.4 winning percentage is nothing to sneeze at.

That would be an eight-win high school regular season or a 13-win NFL campaign.

I'll take that any day.

This week, we have five playoff teams hoping to continue their seasons.

A sixth team, Karns City, is on a bye.

On to the picks:

Mars 23, Ringgold 22 — In what shapes up to be a game that will go down to the wire, Mars has a little bit of experience with games coming down to the last second.

Last week, Caleb Brake booted an 18-yard field goal to give the Planets a 17-14 win over New Castle.

I see Brake coming up with another game-winning field goal, this one to send Mars to the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals.

Washington 39, Freeport 25 — This could be the highest-scoring game on the docket.

Freeport's offense is explosive and scary good.

Ryan Weigold has thrown for 1,999 and 26 touchdowns to just one interception for the Yellowjackets.

Twin receiving threats Dylan and Brandon Hochbein have combined for 1,230 yards receiving.

But Washington is also an offensive juggernaut.

The Little Prexies have rushed for nearly 3,000 yards as a team.

As much as I hate to go against Freeport, I have to pick Washington in this one.

It should be a very entertaining and competitive game.

CWNC 30, Bishop Canevin 17 — All the Trojans seem to do is win.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic beat Bishop Canevin earlier in the season and they will beat them in the rematch.

St. Marys 23, Moniteau 19 — These two teams know each other well.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two schools in the last two seasons.

St. Marys has won two of those games, including a 7-6 slugfest in the playoffs last season.

The winner gets idle Karns City in the District 9 Class AA championship game.

This one should be another tight, competitive slugfest in St. Marys, but I have to go with the home team.

Fairview 34, Slippery Rock 21 — Don't expect a lot of passing in this one.

Both teams love to line up and run the ball.

Fairview, the Region 4-AA champion in District 10, has attempted just 64 passes this season.

Slippery Rock, the Region 3-AA fourth-place team, is even more averse to putting the ball in the air with just 38 passing attempts all season.

The Rockets are still beset by a slew of injuries and that may be the death knell to Slippery Rock's season.
