Thomas Chuba Sr.
Thomas J. Chuba Sr., 81, of Butler died Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 25, 1934 in Butler, he was a son of the late Thomas P. Chuba and Anna (Stelbotski) Chuba.
Thomas worked as an inspector in stainless for the Armco Steel Plant, retiring in 1995, following 40 years.
He was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian, the Roman Catholic Mens Club, the Butler Elks Club and the Italian Club.
He was president and treasurer for the Butler Cubs ASA and was a life member of the VFW Post 249 in Butler and also the American Legion Post 117 in Butler and Post 778 in Lyndora, where he was also part of its honor guard.
As an avid golfer, he belonged to the Armco Country Club, and when he was younger, he coached youth baseball and basketball teams.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia L. (Komar) Chuba, who he married June 16, 1956; four sons: Thomas J. (Kathy) Chuba, Jr. of Virginia; Christopher R. Chuba of Butler; Bryan Chuba of Texas; Erik L. (Jennifer) Chuba of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lauren M. Chuba; four brothers; and four sisters.
