SRU soccer home for tourney

The Slippery Rock University men’s soccer team earned a home playoff game in the upcoming PSAC Tournament with a 7-0 victory over the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown in the regular-season finale Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Matt Sangermano paced The Rock (11-6, 7-4) with a career-high three goals.

Also scoring were Peter Boylan, Bevan Bish, Mike Ilodigwe and Seneca Valley graduate Josh Allman.

Stephen McConahy, another SV product, added an assist.

Senior goalkeeper Kyle Hoffer stopped three shots in the shutout.

SRU will enter the PSAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed and will host California (Pa.) at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Women’s SoccerSRU’s Caitlin Binder and Dara Demich both scored goals to lift The Rock to a 2-1 win at Kutztown.Charlotte Elrod made six saves in net.SRU (12-5-1, 11-4-1) is the No. 3 seed in the PSAC playoffs and will host Shippensburg at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

FootballDespite 428 passing yards and four touchdowns from junior quarterback Caleb Jakiel, Grove City College dropped a 58-26 decision at Bethany College in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play.Josh Peach hauled in three scoring receptions and Brett Pinson caught seven passes for 180 yards and a touchdown for Grove City (0-8).
