GROVE CITY — Mark Smith, a Butler graduate, will be one of 10 individuals being inducted into the Grove City College Athletic Hall of Fame Feb. 6.

A 1983 GCC graduate, Smith scored 1,171 points for the Wolverines' men's basketball team. He ranks 12th on the team's all-time scoring list.

Smith scored 839 points during his Golden Tornado basketball career.

The Hall of Fame dinner will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 6, the induction ceremony to follow at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25. Call 724-458-2900 for ticket information.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University women's soccer junior forward Dara Demich has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.The Rock's leading scorer with 10 goals and 23 points, Demich is carrying a 3.72 grade point average as a health and physical education major.SRU is 11-5-1 this season and ranked ninth in the Atlantic Region.

MIAMI — When the revolving door that is the Miami Marlins' manager job stopped turning, Don Mattingly was in and Dan Jennings was out of the organization.Miami hired Mattingly less than a week after he parted with the Los Angeles Dodgers, two people familiar with the situation said. The people confirmed the hiring to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the decision hadn't been announced.

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Padres hired Arizona Diamondbacks third base coach Andy Green as their new manager.Green takes over a team that underachieved despite general manager A.J. Preller's aggressive offseason roster makeover. The Padres finished 74-88 and fourth in the NL West, 18 games behind the division champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
