We have arrived.

The final week* of the high school football regular season.

Why the asterisk? Well, it’s because it’s only the last week of the regular season for the WPIAL teams.

For District 9 and 10, there is still one more week after this one.

That bodes well for me and my chase for 110. I have 78 wins right now and I need all the games played I can get.

I have to be perfect, like many of our local teams do in Week 9.

On to the picks:

Central Catholic 46, Butler 10 — Butler got its first win of the season last week. Things will be much tougher this week down in the Burgh.

Seneca Valley 39, Shaler 12 — The Raiders are playoff-bound and have been impressive at times.

They’ll be impressive against Shaler.

Armstrong 30, Knoch 8 — The Knights saw their playoff hopes fade away last week. Armstrong is playing good football right now.

Mars 24, Hampton 11 — Isaiah Johnson could cement his place as the Butler Eagle Scoring Trophy champ this week.

CWNC 27, Shenango 21 — This is an intriguing non-section game and a good playoff primary for the Trojans.

Freeport 29, Valley 16 — The most exciting team in the area, the Yellowjackets, will be put to the test in this way against a dangerous Valley team.

But this Freeport squad has a certain gutsy flare about them that makes this game easy to pick.

Karns City 46, Punxsutawney 15 — The Gremlins have scored more than 40 points in all eight games this season.

Make that nine.

St. Marys 21, Moniteau 16 — In what very well could be a playoff preview, the Warriors’ defense has been impressive enough but I see a late Flying Dutch score as being the difference.

Slippery Rock 28, Corry 24 — In what is in essence a playoff game, the very banged-up Rockets head into the wild to play Corry.

The winner goes to the D-10 Class AA playoffs. The loser is out.

Warren 33, Grove City 17 — Kameron Patterson is creeping up the all-time passing list at Grove City.

He’ll have to throw to keep the Eagles in this one.

Clarion-Limestone 30, Union 21 — Union desperately needs a win here to keep its playoff hopes alive.

C-L rolled up 47 points last week.

Keystone 36, A-C Valley 10 — Keystone showed how good it is last week when it took Karns City to double overtime.

A-C Valley has made life interesting for many teams this season, though.

South Fayette 51, Summit Academy 12 — The Knights are in for a long day against one of the best offenses in the state.

Scoop was 11-2 last week and is 78-18 this season.
