SRU hosts night of music, dancing

The SRU Swing Band, Rock Dance Company and students in the class “Repertory Dance” will perform in a “Swinging Good Time!” concert Nov. 7.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Swing, ballroom and modern music and dance will be spotlighted when 40 Slippery Rock University students collaborate with current and emeritus professors to present the “Swinging Good Time!” concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Smith Student Center ballroom.

The SRU Swing Band, Rock Dance Company and students in the class “Repertory Dance” will perform. Proceeds will support scholarships and SRU’s Performing Arts Series.

The audience will have the opportunity to swing dance: Thom “T.C.” Cobb, a professor emeritus of dance who taught at SRU for 36 years, will serve as master of ceremonies and offer a brief swing dance lesson.

Cobb, Ursula Payne and Jennifer Keller, SRU professors of dance, and Teena Custer created choreography.

The songs will include American classics such as “Route 66,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Moon River” and “Misty.”

The concert is part of SRU’s Performing Arts Series. Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for senior citizens, $16 for youths, and $8 for SRU students and are available by calling 724-738-2018.

AVI Fresh will sell food and beverages. Visit www.sru.edu/pas for more information.
